Jail Breaking Your Marriage
By Diane Kennedy
I first heard the term “jail breaking” on the internet years ago. People were chatting online about taking the phone they purchased while on a contract with Sprint and using it after they switched to Verizon. Was it possible to remove the constraints on the phone and set it free to be used by any network?
I want to use this term not concerning technology but the spiritual realm.
Humans were created perfectly but fell into a state of death and brokenness when sin entered the world. We are all struggling with the effects of this fall, whether actively aware of it or not.
HOWEVER…( don’t you love a good “however” that follows bad news?) However, if you have heard the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ, you know that Jesus has made the way possible, through his death and payment for all sin on the cross, that those who believe may be made NEW and raised to LIFE from their deathly fallen state.
One of our most significant assignments as Christians is learning how to walk as one who has been set free from death and by faith, taking hold of all the life and freedom from sin Christ has provided for us.
Jesus has done the “jail breaking” for us, and we can live a life of freedom, not constrained by the restrictions that darkness meant for us to stay under.
So how now can you live? What can this mean for your marriage if your life has been “jailbroken” by Christ? Unfortunately, many Christian couples are still living with a broken marriage, which does not resemble Christ's relationship with his church.
Ephesians 5:25
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
Colossians 3:18-25
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter toward them.
One of the goals of the I Pray For My Husband Ministry is to build up marriages within the church. We desire to see marriages, just like individuals, jailbroken out of the despair and disbelief that things cannot or will not ever get better. But, if we can trust Jesus Christ with the eternal salvation of our souls, can’t we also trust him to save our marriages?
